Computer Systems Chargeback

    Often an enterprise spends large amounts of capital on their computing environments to support the use of the systems' resources by a wide range of applications and large numbers of users.

    It is essential for an enterprise to understand the costs associated with the various applications and user workloads. This can only be accomplished through the use of a Chargeback system.

    Implementing a Chargeback system is not a trivial task. It requires a great deal of planning, a thorough knowledge of operating systems and applications, an understanding of corporate accounting processes, and the ability to develop interfaces and data feeds to allow the management of the system by finance and administration personnel.

    We have implemented a major Chargeback system based on the MICS Accounting and Chargeback component. This system was used successfully for a number of years and produced comprehensive invoices which included not only computer resource charges, but also those for "external" data, such as inventories of Data Terminal Equipment and Personal Computers, Fax machines, Application Development manpower levels, End User support, and other information.
