Legacy Applications
Legacy
applications are mainframe applications written many years ago in languages such as
COBOL, PL/1, Assembler, FORTRAN, REXX; applications using ISPF/PDF, CICS, IMS and other
old systems. These applications are often very difficult to manage, maintain and support.
Our consultants have a great deal of experience with MVS and VM and
with legacy programming languages and systems. We can assist you with modification of your
legacy applications or conversion them to new Client/Server or Intranet based
applications.
We can also help you to incorporate the old legacy system as
"black boxes" into new applications using a variety of programming interfaces.
There are only a few available alternatives and we are very familiar with all of them:
| • |
Batch interfaces: when new
systems can interface the old ones using some sort of intermediate files or databases; |
| • |
3270 EHLLAPI: when interfaces to old
system are based on a programmed terminal emulation of an operator using a 3270 terminal |
| • |
Intermediate Servers: when
some sort of adapter is created on a mainframe interfacing with a legacy application
on one side and the new application on the other side. The interface to the new system can
be based on SNA APPC technology or TCP/IP based sockets API, or other higher level
communication technology. |
We
will be happy to help you with your legacy system maintenance, support and application
development.
