Operating Systems Performance Tuning
We
have extensive experience in tuning IBM mainframe MVS and VM operating systems.
Tuning activities have included
optimization of storage utilization, I/O handling, scheduling algorithms and workload
prioritization. Essential steps in this process are identification of critical
applications, the characterization of workloads and understanding of service level
objectives.
The
ability to measure system performance is critical. This includes the access to real-time
on-line monitors (e.g. OMEGAMON, RMF
Monitors) and historical data analysis tools (e.g. EPILOG, MICS,
MXG).
It is also very important to setup a Performance Management Process to ensure that you are
aware of any potential problems before they strike!
We have maintained an up-to-date
knowledge in these fields by participating in conferences such as the Computer Measurement Group (CMG),
reading publications such as Technical Support Magazine and Enterprise System
Journal We have published papers in trade journals such as Enterprise Systems
Journal. (Example: "An Experience in MVS Batch Tuning", August 1989 Mainframe
Journal (now ESJ), by Patrick Gaul and Radik Gens and CMG proceedings).
We will be happy to assist you with
tuning of your operating system.
